5 Stars Who Dislike Wearing Heavy Makeup

They may like experimenting with makeup and some have even created their own beauty lines, but these 5 celebrities admit they aren’t a fan of heavy makeup looks and believes light makeup should just be used for daily wear. Having to wear heavy, layered-up makeup for their work, these stars say going natural feels much better.

Drew Barrymore

Drew had bad reactions to heavy set makeup and hates having to wear it: “Depending on the scenes we were shooting, I’d have to sit in that makeup chair four to six hours every single day. Just ageing the face and hands took four hours. Then, taking it off, was another hour and a half… My face suffered as a result. We ended up with skin issues I’d never had before because I developed an allergy to chemicals in isopropyl, the alcohol used in removing cosmetics. A constancy of prosthetics also created a sensitivity to adhesives, and our makeup people had to find alternatives.”

Halle Berry

Halle hates how heavy makeup feels and thinks light application feels much better: “Less is more. When I wear too much make-up, I feel like a man in drag. I prefer to be low-maintenance.”

Kylie Jenner

Kylie doesn’t think it’s an attractive look: “If I’m going to see people, I won’t wear heavy makeup. It’s not attractive on me. When you see those pictures on my Instagram, they are usually for when I’m doing a photo shoot or an interview. Every time I get my makeup professionally done, I take a photo. I do love lashes and lip liner and a light foundation and bronzer, though … I used to be obsessed with heavy lashes, but now I just want to find something super clean and light.”

Lily James

Lily has had heavy makeup applied and felt it was too much: ”[For example I went to] Italy and they tend to put heavier make-up on there, when I’m getting it, I’m like, ‘Yeah, get it on,’ but then I realise in hindsight it’s maybe too much. But that’s what I think make-up artists always say, that it’s good to keep it bright and fresh and focus on either the eye or the lip.”

Naomi Watts

Naomi wears so much makeup on set that she has to cleanse her skin very well to remove it all: ”I do shoots that are ten or 12 weeks long, wearing make-up for ten hours a day under lights that push it into your skin. It’s then reapplied and layered on. So to cleanse well and take care of my skin is important.”
