5 Stars Speak on Getting In Shape after Giving Birth

Celebrities are notorious for snapping back to their original shape after giving birth, and these 5 new moms have revealed their secret to getting back into shape post-pregnancy. Most advise that a strict diet and exercise regime is key, while Jessica Alba believes that the yoga she did while pregnant helped her slim down after, and Miranda Kerr says she just took her usual workout up a notch after the birth.

Brooke Burke

Brooke Burke says she put on 30 pounds when she had her most recent baby, but has managed to get back to her original shape: “I’ve been doing Pilates for eight years, it supports your back and I think it helps for an easier delivery.” She also uses “Tauts Belly Wraps,” a Velcro waist hugging devise which helps your stomach return to its original shape: “I didn’t invent this. It’s been around for thousands of years, it creates some compression, helps your uterus go back down to its original size and it helps the tummy go back much quicker.”

Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr says that although she is always healthy, she did a more intense workout after the birth of her son Flynn: “I’m pretty healthy consistently. I just stuck to that routine and just amped it up a little, did a few more lunges and squats. I’ve been really consistent with that, that’s it.”

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey first dropped a lot of water weight when she began to work out after the birth of her twins: ‘The first week, I lost 40 lbs. … of just water. It was just water, initially. When I started with the programme, I lost at least 30 lbs of weight that needed to be lost. I had a really tough pregnancy. I was supposed to be on bed rest, but it was so bad that even bed hurt. I learned a lot being pregnant, watching my body change.’

Kourtney Kardashian

Kourtney Kardashian tried going to the gym first, but found that just going for an early morning jog helped her drop some baby weight: ‘I tried working out at the gym in our New York City hotel, which was boring, and I took bootcamp classes with Kim, but they’re just not for me. Know when is the right time for your workout and commit to doing it, for me, I have to get up at 7am every day, before everyone else, leave Mason in bed with Scott, and go for a run. Thirty minutes of cardio is right outside my door.’

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba practiced yoga throughout her second pregnancy and started a gym routine after the baby was born:  “I didn’t gain as much weight with my second pregnancy, so I think that really made a big difference, I did prenatal yoga up until the very end. I just made healthier choices. I started working out and not going too crazy, but I did what was safe and what the doctor approved.” After the birth of Haven, she began 40 minutes of cardio on a stationary bike and the elliptical.”
