When your a celebrity constantly complimented for your work, your looks, etc – it’s easy for your head to balloon into a huge watermelon of vanity and stupidity. However, these 5 celebrities try their best not to let it happen to them. They’ve done their best to stay down-to-earth and grounded. For some, the trick is hanging out with people who they can trust and who don’t treat them differently, while others have different methods to combat big head syndrome. Some like to concentrate hard on work and forget about the fame side, while others believe their own insecurities keep them normal because it’s stops them from believing they are as good as everyone says they are.
Lauren stays normal by only being around good people including family who remind her she’s not as cool as she’s seen to be: “One way to stay grounded in the entertainment industry is to surround yourself with very good people that will constantly remind you how uncool you are. It helps that I have an amazing family and I have really great friends that I’ve had since I was a little kid and they’re all still around me, reminding me how lame I am.”
Mandy stays grounded by working hard and keeping her personal life private: “Being busy with work, certainly keeps me grounded but then also realising the lineation between working and still having a private life, a personal life for yourself. Finding that balance I think is essential in having some semblance of groundedness in your life.”
Pink has stayed grounded by observing how it can go wrong for others and reflecting on how it could easily be her too: “I hope I never get too big for my boots. I haven’t so far and I hope I won’t. I have seen others do it and it’s disgusting. I was lucky enough to get a record deal at 16 and then not have a record out until I was 20. I had four years to watch everyone else f**k up and blow up and think they were s**t. You see the same people on the way up you see on the way down.”
Robert says his insecurities keep him grounded because anyone who thinks they’re great are just vain and dumb to allow themselves to think that way:”I’m quite an insecure person, so it’s not hard for me to stay grounded. You have to be pretty dumb to let your head get big, especially when everything about your life is reported. Everyone knows you’re just a vain moron.”
Selena turns to close friends and family when she needs to have some normal time because it can be overwhelming: “Obviously it’s an overwhelming business, especially for those of us who have been in it since we were very young and have grown up with it. But you just have to make sure you have good friends around you and your family there to support you. It’s important to have that support system around you to help you cope.”
