These 5 celebrities all still get red carpet nerves, even though they’ve all gone through it plenty of times before. They aren’t keen on all of that attention being thrown on them, plus there is all of that pressure to look good and be dressed well too. You have to behave well, look effortless and be perfectly sophisticated while photographers snap constantly and interview questions are thrown in your direction. It’s a hard situation that would make even the most seasoned actor or actress get a little worked up, so it’s no surprise that these 5 stars still get incredibly nervous when awards season is on the horizon!
Adele often feels physically sick when it’s time to step out on to the red carpet because she feels incredibly nervous: “I hate the red carpet. I don’t feel insecure, I just feel like, ‘Oh, I don’t want to do this.’ I literally get a stomach cramp. At the VMAs last year I felt really out of my comfort zone because there were so many superstars there. But that’s been the case from day one. I never feel like, ‘Oh, yeah, I should be here.’ And I was missing my best friend’s hen night. So I was a bit bitter that I wasn’t there, to be perfectly honest.”
Charlize feels anxious before the red carpet because of all of the attention that will be on her and she admits she ends up sweating a lot: ”Red carpets are still the same so far as anxiety and nerves. I don’t think that ever goes away because it’s a lot of attention! But it’s so moving that everyone comes out to support us. That always, always amazes me. It’s flattering. It’s sweet and I try not to think about it. Of course it’s intimidating”
Claire feels that the red carpet can often be a scary experience and she thinks it’s a different part of her job that she might not have been prepared for at first:”There’s something scary about the red carpet – it’s very serious. It’s a separate job from acting, but one that I’ve learnt to appreciate. I love those images too. They’re different from a stolen paparazzi shot – everybody’s participating and it’s about fashion.”
Robert felt extremely nervous the first time he hit the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival and simply couldn’t believe it: “I was kind of s**tting myself… I lost my mind. I was preparing myself to fight with 1,500 people. I was so amped up… I was just kind of running around with my pants down and my shoelaces untied and, amazingly, not falling. Until this. I thought, ‘Oh f**k!’ Most people get 15 years of doing movies nobody sees. Now I’m at Cannes.”
Selena feels like a normal girl and admits that the whole red carpet experience isn’t something that feels natural to her: “I am [a normal girl next door]. I can still walk down the street, so in that respect I’m quite lucky. But some things in my life don’t come naturally, like walking the red carpet. It’s pretty scary! It’s not that I’m not confident in myself, it’s just that the red carpet is not somewhere I feel totally comfortable.”
